Samsung
Telecommunications America (Samsung) and Britney Spears today announced the
grand prize winner of the “Samsung Superstar Karaoke Tour.” Selected as one of
the top 10 finalists from almost 600 contestants, Grand Rapids, Michigan, native
Bethany Broekema was chosen by Britney Spears’ management team to represent
Samsung as the company’s official Samsung Superstar.
Via a special message, Britney Spears alerted Bethany of her new status as
Samsung’s Superstar and encouraged her to always follow her dreams. Bethany’s
prize package includes a recording session with a producer in a professional
studio, after which Britney Spears’ management will review the demo tape.
Bethany will also be given a walk-on role in one of Britney’s upcoming videos.
“I am really excited about being Samsung’s Superstar!” said Bethany. “I’ve had
some great opportunities to sing everything from country to opera, and I really
enjoyed performing to Britney’s music in the karaoke contest.”
On July 22, as Britney Spears concluded her “Dream Within a Dream” concert tour,
the “Samsung Superstar Karaoke Tour” hit the road, traveling to 33 Best Buy
stores across the country. Talented performers in 24 cities competed in the
karaoke contest and were given personal tours of the official Samsung/Britney
Spears tour bus, formerly owned by Kid Rock and *NSYNC.
“We’re thrilled that Bethany Broekema is Samsung’s Superstar,” said Peter
Skarzynski, senior vice president of wireless terminals for Samsung
Telecommunications America. “Talented young individuals from across the country
helped make the ‘Samsung Superstar Karaoke Tour’ a huge success, and Samsung
wishes its first Superstar the best of luck in pursuing her dreams.”
In May, Samsung and Britney Spears announced a long-term, multi-tier sponsorship
agreement, positioning Samsung as the official wireless phone manufacturer of
Britney Spears and her “Dream Within a Dream” concert tour. Samsung’s
sponsorship of Britney Spears is the company’s latest high-profile marketing
initiative and underscores the handset manufacturer’s emergent position as a
top-tier wireless phone maker.
