Britney Spears may well have had her heart broken by Justin Timberlake, but it wasn't the first time it happened. Her real first love was barman Reg Jones, who loved and lost her back in high school. And, guess what - he wants her back!

Reg, who's now 24, dated the millionaire singer for two and a half years when she was just 14 and he was 18.
Despite splitting up more than three years ago, Reg admits he's still in love with her. "She was the best girlfriend anyone could have ever had," he says. "She was a dream girl. Awesome is the only way to describe her. All my friends loved her and she was just extremely special."

The pair split up in December 1998, when Britney toured with the boyband *NSync and began spending her time with Justin Timberlake, who was to be her next big love.
But Reg insists it was Britney's hectic schedule that caused the rift between them. "She'd been travelling so much and had no time for me. She was so busy I just never got to see her.
"Then we started arguing really badly and I went round her house just before Christmas Day and said: `This is silly'. We came to the conclusion that we should break up. I didn't want to continue our relationship having arguments all the time. I was really sad, but we couldn't go on like that."

After the couple split, Britney admitted: "I was really head-over- heels in love. I don't think I'll ever love somebody like that again."
But, sadly for Reg, she did find love again - with Timberlake. But Reg refuses to bad-mouth Justin.
"I used to see him a lot when Britney was off touring with *NSync and he was always cool to me. I was happy for her, because I really want her to be content."

Reg, however, has been less lucky in love, since, as being Britney's ex hasn't proved a hit with the women. "Whenever I go out with my friends, they always introduce me as the guy who used to date Britney," he sighs. "Girls are really weird about the whole Britney thing. They always say they hate her music and her look and are horrible about her. I guess they get jealous. I always stick up for her."

Reg met Britney when he started at her school in Louisiana at the age of 13 and began playing football with her older brother, Bryan. Brit was just nine years old so Reg never gave her a second look.
"Then in the summer between junior and senior year (years 11 and 12), I remember saying to Britney's mum how lovely she was and she suggested I asked her out."
By then, Reg was captain of the football team and one of the school's most popular lads. "At the time everyone kind of looked up to me. I could have dated a lot of people, but I liked Britney and that first date developed into a very serious relationship."

Britney's from a religious family, so the teenagers watched TV and enjoyed family church outings - and Reg admired Britney's wish not to have sex before marriage. "I really respect that. But we had plenty of fun."

Reg always suspected Britney would make it big. "Her father would always say that I was dating a future star," he recalls. "At first I was bitter that she was achieving all this success and I wasn't a part of it, but now I'm happy she's reached her lifelong dream. I would never have held her back."
He also admits: "I would really love to get back together, but as long as she's happy, I can cope with the separation."

Reg still keeps a close eye on her career. "My mum tapes her TV appearances for me. When I watch them, it never crosses my mind that she's changed. She's still my little Brit and is still just as wonderful as ever."

And now Britney's single again, Reg is getting his hopes up. "I was born to make you happy. Give me another chance!" he says he wants to tell her.
"I miss her, and still think about her all the time. I know she still cares for me. I think to myself that if it's fate, we'll get back together. I just have to wait and see what happens. And if we don't,then I have to remember that it was fun while it lasted."
