Transcending her tumultuous teen character in
'Crossroads,' a self-assured Britney Spears will live life in the fast lane for
her next movie.
Spears has inked a deal with NASCAR to develop and produce a feature film based
on the world's fastest sport, according to her publicist. In the film, Spears
will portray the daughter of a NASCAR team owner who inspires a retired track
veteran to return to the circuit. Although casting has yet to be completed,
NASCAR drivers are expected to appear in the flick.
James V. Hart, who has scripted the screenplays for 'Contact' (1997) and
'Muppets Treasure Island' (1996), among other works, is writing the
as-yet-untitled feature. A final draft of the script is expected to be finished
in August, and production may begin in the first quarter of 2003 with a budget
of $40-$50 million.
Talks of making the racing flick began in July, when Spears was the grand
marshal of the Pepsi 400. A meeting was held with Spears and members of her
Britney Spears Prods. production company at the racetrack in Florida, and the
idea was hatched.
Britney Spears Prods. — composed of principals Larry Rudolph, Spears' manager,
and Ann Carli, producer of 'Crossroads' — has two undisclosed projects in the
development stages.
Musically, Spears will wrap her Dream Within a Dream Tour July 22 in Dallas.

I don't know but, does this sound like something Britney would even want to do?
Do a Racing Movie? I mean, to me it seems as if Britney is lacking scripts, last
time I heard Britney wanted a lead role in a movie which had a romantic story to
it,
like, a movie that would fill people's hearts and that would bring you really
close to the characters, this is something that came out of Britney's own mouth,
not making anything up here, so well, ok, I don't know !! ugh....I just don't
think that a racing
movie is Britney's right way to go right now when she's just starting to debut
in the movie business, this is prolly something that Britney was convinced to
do, and Nascar well, the sponsorships and everything involved prolly means $$$$,
but I think
Britney should wait for the perfect role to land. Apparently, back in January
she read a script that she just loved, it was a love story but the lead went to
someone else, a very famous hollywood actress that she admires a lot but she did
not want to say
who this actress was. According to Britney, the script was the best she had ever
read. So....uhm.....a Racing movie with a supporting role? Britney......do you
realize that you have the power to stand up and get a more serious role and in
your genre?
That is my opinion.
