Britney has been named as one of the nominees at the 2002 MTV Movie Awards for her role
in debut movie Crossroads. The 20-year-old star is in line to claim the Best
Breakthrough Female prize.
After being booed by fans at the London premiere of the film and attacked in the press for
her conduct at the event, at last Britney has grabbed some critical acclaim -
and she'll be pleased it's for her acting, rather than singing, skills.
A report on Britney's official site www.britneyspears.com concludes 'it's not surprising
when you consider how hard Britney worked on Crossroads, and that she conceived
the role of 'Lucy' herself.'
Other nominees for the award include fellow pop star Mandy Moore (A Walk To Remember),
Penelope Cruz (Blow), Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight's Tale) and Anne Hathaway (The
Princess Diaries). The awards will be televised in the US on Saturday 1 June on
MTV.
Meanwhile, Britney is preparing to embark on a gruelling two-month US tour which takes in
30 cities. The second leg of the Dream Within A Dream tour is a truly lavish
production and features a 153-foot long with 'catwalk-style' runway, plus over
250 lights and lasers. The tour starts on 24 May with two dates in Las Vegas and
ends on 22 July in Dallas.
