US pop star Britney Spears spent the last day of her
whirlwind visit to Australia at the zoo. Spears, 20, delighted hundreds of
holidaying schoolchildren by stopping to greet them and sign autographs during
her visit to Taronga Zoo in Sydney's north, according to an onlooker.
One young fan, eight-year-old Susie Mitchell, was pleased to meet her idol,
posing for a photograph with Spears and several cardboard cutout penguins.
Spears spent most of her time admiring the zoo's gorillas before departing
early in the afternoon for some last-minute bargain shopping on Sydney's Oxford
Street, armed with her strong US dollar spending money.
The star performed for her fans at Sydney's Fox Studios on Thursday, with an
after-party for her entourage held at hip inner-city bar, The Bank.
She leaves Australia from Sydney Airport tonight, to continue her promotional
commitments in Japan.
