Britney Spears thinks local swimming ace Ian Thorpe is
sweet, her minders don't. Thorpe was given the windup sign today by the American
pop star's minders as he entered taboo territory during a one-off radio
interview.
Thorpe assisted Jackie-O, host of Austereo's Hot 30 program, in an interview
with the 20-year-old starlet to be aired tonight.
"I think you're really sweet," Spears told Thorpe, according to
Jackie-0.
But she said Thorpe got the windup from her minders when he started asking
Spears questions about crowd backlash at last month's London premiere of her new
film.
Despite the hiccup, he still came away with the compliment.
The star was booed when she failed to sign autographs or talk to fans at the
premiere.
Spears is in Australia to promote the movie, Crossroads, and today gave a
one-off public performance at Sydney's Fox Studios.
More than 5000 fans packed the complex to catch a glimpse of Spears as she
belted out one song live and lip-synched two others.
Deafening screams drowned out Spears on stage, and while she spoke to fans.
But not everyone was happy with the stars' short performance.
"I thought it was an amazing performance but she did not seem to have
time for her fans at all," Clayton Thomson, 26, from Yowie Bay said.
"She didn't talk much, she seemed in a hurry to get off the stage."
Eleni Petinos, 16, from Bundeena, said: "It was disappointing that her
last two songs were mimed, I would have like to see her perform them live."
Spears will be at the premiere of her movie tonight in Sydney and departs for
LA tomorrow.
