Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were never married, but
the busted-up darlings of teen pop have a community-property problem.
The former couple is wrestling over who will keep the Beverly Hills mansion
they bought in February of last year for more than $3 million, according to
reports.
Britney sympathizers say she should get to keep it as small compensation for
Timberlake's dropping her. But friends of Timberlake say he should have dibs on
it, since he saw it first.
Though neither spent much time in the house, both are said to be consulting
lawyers.
The 6,400-square-foot, four-bedroom villa — which overlooks Sunset Strip
— was built three years ago. It has a winding driveway, a pool, a spa, a
screening room, a guest house and a five-car garage. Then there's the enormous
master-bedroom suite (not that they ever had sex in it). It features a sitting
room, his-and-hers bathrooms and walk-in closets.
A rep for the two did not return calls yesterday (they have joint custody of
their spokeswoman). But Timberlake recently said he would never do
"anything to hurt" Britney.
As for Brit, Justin might want to keep in mind the view on capital punishment
that she recently gave to a French newspaper: "I think someone who has
committed atrocities deserves a punishment reflecting their seriousness."
